2024 PSS National Conference
Over the past decades, sociology has confronted the task of decolonizing knowledge systems, theories, and institutions that shape and reinforce social structures. Scholars, activists, and practitioners have likewise interrogated knowledge production and dissemination modalities. With this in mind, the theme of the Philippine Sociological Society (PSS) 2024 conference is: “Imagining (De)colonization: Reflections, Directions, Actions.” It intends to explore the ways Philippine sociology and related disciplines can reflect on and critique the framing of social realities, knowledge systems, institutions, and processes while interrogating colonial and neocolonial structures and relations in the Philippines and globally. The conference also seeks to highlight the diverse experiences, perspectives, and truths of the (de)colonized, as well as the salient repercussions and opportunities for decolonizing the field of sociology itself. The conference will be held on October 2-4, 2024, at Caraga State University (CSU) in Butuan City, the pre-colonial historical gateway to the southern Philippines. The conference will be face-to-face.
The PSS invites sociologists, social scientists, academics, and practitioners to submit abstracts and papers for the PSS 2024 Conference. We welcome submissions that address any of the following sub-themes or related topics:
- Critiques of colonial and neocolonial knowledge systems, structures, and dynamics
- Decolonial theories, methodologies, and pedagogies
- Indigenous knowledge and epistemologies as “invisible(d)” knowledge systems
- Intersections of decoloniality, innovation, and technology
- The (de)colonized self and the discipline: reflexivity, positionality, politics, and ethics in decolonial research and practice
