A workshop on research and publication for sociology and social science teachers is held from 5-9 May 2015 at Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. Funded by a grant from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the workshop is a project of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology of Ateneo de Manila University as a Center of Excellence (COE) in Sociology. Dr. Emma Porio and Dr. Jose Jowel Canuday conducted the workshop in partnership with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Research and Development Center of Silliman University.
Research Director Dr. Enrique Oracion, who coordinated the workshop, invited participants from within and outside of Silliman University. The other schools include Saint Paul University of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental State University in Dumaguete City and Bais City campuses, University of San Carlos, Cebu Normal University and Southwestern University in Cebu City. The invited participants were first asked to submit their draft manuscripts as requirement for admission to the workshop. Fifteen teachers are admitted whose manuscripts are critiqued and subsequently revised as major workshop outputs.
In order to achieve its objectives, the workshop is designed as a collective system of mentoring which involves presentation of outputs and feedback for every session. The participants are inspired and expected to further polish their manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals.
