John Andrew Evangelista

John Andrew G. Evangelista or Andoy, for many, earned his BA in Social Sciences (major in Social Anthropology) from the University of the Philippines Baguio and his MA in Sociology degree from the University of the Philippines Diliman where he currently works as an Assistant Professor. His published articles revolve on LGBTQ identities and movements. His research interests include LGBTQ politics, social movements, queer theories, and gender and sexuality studies. As a professional researcher, he collaborates with colleagues in projects about gender and development, information and technology, and health. As an activist, he facilitates gender and sexuality studies trainings in grassroots communities. He also uses several media and other political platforms to creatively foreground issues concerning people’s rights, social justice, and gender/sexual fairness. He believes in the crucial role of gender and sexuality analyses in critically theorizing and appropriately transforming unjust social structures that breed lasting forms of inequalities.
