UP Tacloban sociologist receives Asian Graduate Student Fellowship

Mr. Dakila Kim P. Yee, an Instructor at the Division of Social Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban College and currently a Master of Arts in Sociology student at the University of the Philippines Diliman was awarded theconferred by the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore for the year 2016.

Yee is among 30 scholars from different countries in Asia who will undertake the two month research fellowship which will commence on May 23, 2016 and will end in July 15, 2016. The aim of the fellowship is to allow scholars to have full access to the facilities and resources available at the libraries of the National University of Singapore and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. The fellows are expected to hold presentations of their work during the “Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies” to be held in the middle of July 2016. For his part, Yee will present results from his on-going Thesis entitled “Governing Risk-Prone Areas in Post-Haiyan Tacloban: Application of Governmentality in Post-Disaster Intervention in the Philippines.”

Yee was overwhelmed when he first received the notification of his acceptance to the fellowship. He stated, “Being accepted for the NUS-ARI Graduate Student Fellowship is an exciting opportunity. I am looking forward to being able to access the libraries at the National University of Singapore and being able to learn from the academics and experts that will mentor me during my stay there. The National University of Singapore – Asia Research Institute is a center for research on disasters and urbanization in the Southeast Asian Region so I am expecting to learn a lot during my stay there.”
