An Invitation to an Urban Laboratory Conference in Ateneo de Manila University
The Ateneo de Manila University collaborates with Sciences Po Paris for a research on the challenges of city governance with support from the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd).
The main goal of the joint urban laboratory is to familiarize both the French and Filipino researchers with the challenges of city governance in a context of rapid urban sprawl, densification and increasingly visible threats brought by climate change related events and proliferation of systemic risks.
The urban laboratory will open with the conference on “Urban Resilience and Sustainability Challenges: Governance Innovations from the Global South” on January 15, Monday, 9:00 am to 12:00 nn, Escaler Hall, Ateneo de Manila University.
This will be followed by a 5-day field immersion to other cities of Metro Manila and the surrounding peri-urban regions (Clark, Nuvali, Tagaytay) and conclude with a Synthesis Conference on January 20, Saturday, 9:00 am to 12:00 nn, Faber Hall 101, Ateneo de Manila University.
This Urban Laboratory will be attended by graduate students and faculty supervisors from Sciences Po Paris and graduate students and faculty from Philippine Higher Education Institutions.
Their activities will explore these complex interrelations building from a general understanding of city governance challenges (segmentation, coordination, transversal policy issues cutting through specific services, legitimation and social acceptance of policy choices) towards a more specific sectoral approach (water, energy, eco-systemic preservation, marginalization and risk).
